Taking Advantage of False Poker Tells
Most poker players know what tells are; they are somewhat subtle actions by players that can signify what they have with their hands. Tells can be thought of as 'advertisements' by players albeit involuntary ones. False poker tells on the other hand, are the same though with one important difference: false poker tells are intentional and they are done deliberately to send false signals to one's opponents.
False poker tells, which are sometimes called Hollywood by veteran players as fake tells are all acting, may be ineffective and futile to some but for those who are intent on playing more efficiently and winning more whatever the price, putting up fake poker tells may be worth the effort.
False poker tells are much like bluffs in the sense that they are meant to give subtle signals that are directly opposite to what is actually true. Bluffs are made through actions that are within the mechanics and the rules of poker while fake tells are made through subtle behaviors and mannerisms to signify something.
A false tell that most players are likely to have witnessed or even practiced is the one that involves handling the poker chips. Handling poker chips as if one can not wait for long to put them in the pot can be done as a false tell by one who has a relatively weak hand. Handling them in such way is like saying that one has a winning one in your hands that one can't wait to put your bet into the pot. Opponents may notice this behavior and it may influence them to think twice about fighting it out especially if they have hands of marginal value. This is a prime example that illustrates how fake poker tells are useful especially in instances when one does not have the best of hands.
So how does one act out effectively a false tell? A false tell is done best when it is done subtle enough that they do not come out obvious to one's opponents as a tell that is coming out obviously is not a tell at all. Do the tells subtly enough so that they do not come off as deliberate advertisements to others that are at the poker table and to make them as genuine as possible.
False poker tells are good tools for anyone wanting to make the most out of every poker game. They may not be as effective as other tactics but there is nothing to lose when one does try them which makes doing false poker tells worthwhile for one who wants to add something new to their arsenal of poker tactics.
